With concrete and measurable climate targets, the company supports the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement and lives up to its responsibility for a climate-friendly society.
The Group-wide #GreenMagenta Program is designed to help achieve the climate targets. Employees from a wide range of areas are working specifically to make influential elements of the core business, such as network operations, office buildings and stores, more resource-efficient and climate-friendly. The program thus approaches climate and resource protection in a variety of ways.
The Group program was launched in 2019 under the name “we care for our planet”. It was renamed the #GreenMagenta Program in April 2021, meaning that Telekom presents a uniform image through the program and the #GreenMagenta and #GoodMagenta labels and shows that environmental and climate protection is closely linked to the company.
In addition, the name #GreenMagenta Program precisely describes Telekom’s goal: to become greener, bit by bit.
Climate targets recently tightened, visibility increased
Telekom is also stepping on the gas at the highest level when it comes to environmental and climate protection: the Telekom network is already completely green worldwide thanks to the use of green electricity. In March 2021, the Board of Management also decided on a new timeframe for the other climate target, and brought forward the target achievement date.
Climate neutrality, often referred to as net zero, for in-house emissions is to be achieved by 2025 at the latest. The emissions involved from the production stage to operation by the customer are also to be reduced to net zero by 2040 – ten years earlier than originally planned.
